A Winery
Ribera del Duero, Spain, 2020

The winery is set in the rural country of Ribera del Duero Spain. Here they have a long tradition for making and storing wine but in a much smaller scale than the cellars built today. I sought to make a cellar that is fully equiped and up to date with an industrialized winecellar but one that draws experince and knowledge from the old very sustainable and natural ventilated subterrain cellars. The cellar incorporates the landscape as part of the building using the escavated material to build the walls. The walls are stamped earth with reinforced concrete corners and decks. It is a material with good thermal and acoustic insulation properties, and with great breathability which is very suited for a cellar. The tectonics of the structure unites the tradition in the area and upscaled to suit the future.
